ITEMS International, a consultancy engaged by the NRO to conduct this current review, has delivered its report. The report is open for public comment and is available here: http://www.nro.net/wp-content/uploads/ASO-Review-Report-2012.pdf The NRO encourages the ICANN, RIR, and wider Internet communities to provide comments on this report, to inform the NRO and ICANN on the further steps required by the review process. The ASO AC is pleased to announce the following four candidates for its upcoming appointment. The Candidates are: - Thomas Eric Brunner-Williams - Martin J. Levy - William Manning - Raymond Alan Plzak In accordance with the ASO AC election procedures, a comment period is now open. A short biography is available and supporting comment facilities for each candidate may be found at: http://aso.icann.org/people/icann-board-elections/2012-elections/ The comment period will close at 23:59 UTC on 19 April 2012. ________________________________________________________________________ Call for ICANN Board Nominations close 16 January 2012 ________________________________________________________________________ The Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC) call for nominations for Seat Number 9 on the ICANN Board will close at 23:59 UTC on 16 January 2012. The ASO AC election procedures are found in Section 7 of the ASO Operating Procedures and are available on the ASO website at: http://aso.icann.org/documents/operating-procedures-aso-ac/ Article VI of the ICANN Bylaws states that: "At any given time, no two Directors selected by a Supporting Organization shall be citizens from the same country or of countries located in the same Geographic Region." The ASO AC selection for Seat 10 of the ICANN Board of Directors resides in the APNIC region, so nominees for Seat 9 cannot reside in the APNIC region. Independent review of the ICANN ASO. Request for Proposals for consulting services. The Address Supporting Organisation (ASO) is the body which acts within the ICANN framework to advise the Board with respect to policy issues relating to the operation, assignment and management of Internet addresses. In accordance with the terms of the ASO MoU signed between the ICANN and the NRO, the NRO is seeking to appoint an independent consultant to undertake a review of the ASO. Mr Plzak's term will begin on 7 May 2009. Dear Colleagues, I am extremely pleased to report that the Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space has just been ratified by the ICANN Board of Directors unanimously by acclamation. My congratulations to the IP addressing community. This new global policy is the culmination of work by the whole IP addressing community over 2+ years, initiate by 2 different parties with different goals, with a compromise that was reached to balance the principles that define what is fair and equitable for those people in the established Internet, the growing Internet, and the Internet yet-to-be. Within the ASO context as defined by the MoU, global policies are Internet number resource policies that have the agreement of all Regional Internet Registries according to their policy development processes and ICANN, and require specific actions or outcomes on the part of IANA or any other external ICANN-related body in order to be implemented. The global policy proposal that has been introduced is titled: Global policy proposal for the allocation of IPv4 blocks to Regional Internet Registries and it concerns: 1. Recovery of IPv4 address space 2. Allocation of recovered IPv4 address space by the IANA This global policy proposal is being discussed in the Regional Internet Registries' policy fora.
