The meeting was held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, in hybrid format from October 3rd to 7th in conjunction with the LACNOG2022
On site there were more than 400 attendees. And more than 470 registered to follow the meeting remotely.
LACNIC celebrated its 20th anniversary. During the event, Hartmut Glaser was awarded with the annual LACNIC recognition prize to those with outstanding trajectory in the Internet industry in the region. Rafael "Lito" Ibarra, winner of this award in 2020, also received his long awaited prize (announced during the LACNIC virtual event in 2020). Other previous LACNIC directors were also present during the week.
The event agenda included tutorials, conferences, panels and presentations, discussing topics related with IPv6, Peering, Public Policies and LACNIC strategies and programs.
During the Public Policy Forum, 6 proposals were presented:
- unifying IPv4 and IPv6 texts - IP address leasing is not allowed - Policy proposals impact analysis from LACNIC are obligatory - Addresses allocated to critical infrastructure should return to this specific poll where recovered or returned - Updates on end site and end user definitions - Policy Development Process chair election
Those policies were still in the discussion phase at the end of the Forum.
The last part of the forum, was the usual Open Mic session, where a good debate was held, including onsite and remote participants
LACNOG event had 12 technical sections, related with topics such as IPv6, Peering, BGP, Cybersecurity, Routing and IoT. The program also included two panels about Network Operators Groups in Latin America and the Caribbean, and challenges for the small ISPs in the region;. Besides, a few lightning talks were included in the programs.
The next LACNIC meeting will happen on May 8-12, 2023 in the city of Merida in México.
