Follow-up Notice to the RIR Community: ICANN Empowered Community Rejection Action Petition

Dear ASO Today, the ASO published a follow-up notice to the RIR community regarding the ICANN Empowered Community Rejection Action Petition initiated by ALAC concerning the proposed Standard Bylaws Amendment to Article 27 of the ICANN Bylaws. Following receipt of a request for the ASO to consider supporting the ALAC Rejection Action Petition, the NRO Executive Council consulted the RIR communities and the ASO AC. No input in support of the petition was received through this consultation process. As a result, and in accordance with the ASO’s consideration of Empowered Community matters, the ASO will not support the Community Rejection Petition. LACNIC45 was held in Panamá from May 25th through 28. It was initially planned to be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, at the beginning of May, but it was transferred to this new location due to security reasons. Around 1200 persons were participating in the event (900 attended in person and more than 300 remotely). LACNIC tested a new 4 days of meeting format, replacing the traditional 5 days schedule, used up to 2025. During those 4 days, attendees could participate in tutorials for a wide range of network (including topics like IPv6, RPKI and ASPA), cybersecurity and IP administration issues. Other groups also met during the week taking advantage of the space and correlated activities. Among those groups there was LAC Peering Forum, LAC CSIRTs and LACTLD Policy forum was held on Wednesday with no new policy proposal being presented. It included a relevant panel about the collaborative approach used by a group of with authors of a previously accepted proposal, aiming IPv4 leasing, They shared their experience presenting and discussing ideas with the community before presenting their proposal. The ASO/AC members presented a report of ICP-2 work progress on Tuesday (during the first slot of the meeting, after the opening ceremony). Questions received were about need to clarify the role and functioning of NIRs in the new “ICP-2” governance document. and also a comment about the document being a way to regulate RIR activities. The ASO-AC members also presented a report about ASO/AC activities during the Policy Forum. Next LACNIC meeting will be in Mendoza - Argentina from Oct 19th through 22th.
