Dear ASO-AC friends,

I would like to briefly update you about the start of the ICANN 2027 NomCom cycle. This may also be useful background for our discussion later today with Amir Qayyum, former NomCom Chair 2024 and 2025, and Associate Chair in 2026.

1. New NomCom leadership appointed

At its special meeting on 5 October 2026, the ICANN Board appointed:

Charles Mok as 2027 NomCom Chair.
Ron da Silva as 2027 NomCom Chair-Elect.

Both appointments are confirmed in the Board's published resolutions of their Special meeting on 5 October. And the announcement is here. Ron da Silva previously represented the ASO on NomCom in 2024.

2. Nine leadership positions to be filled in 2027

The new NomCom will be responsible for selecting candidates for nine positions:

Three positions for the ICANN Board of Directors (three-year terms).
Three positions for the At-Large Advisory Committee, ALAC (two-year terms, representing Africa, Asia/Australia/Pacific, and Latin America/Caribbean).
One position for the ccNSO Council (three-year term).
And two positions for the GNSO Council (two-year terms), one in the Contracted Parties House and one in the Non-Contracted Parties House, both voting positions.

3. ASO-AC engagement and support

As the new cycle begins, I would welcome the ASO-AC's support in three areas:

INPUT: Sharing your comments concerning the qualifications and experience sought in ICANN leadership from the perspective of the numbering community. This can be done through the official channel nomcom-communityinput@icann.org and/or through me.
OUTREACH: Helping me and NomCom identify and encourage qualified candidates from across the RIR communities and your professional networks once recruitment opens early next year.
DIALOGUE: Maintaining bi-directional communications throughout the cycle, while respecting NomCom's independence and the confidentiality of its selection processes.

The 2027 NomCom will begin its work during ICANN87 in Bali. I look forward to serve as your ongoing appointed delegate and to keeping you informed of relevant developments. Amir and I will attend tonight's discussion and will be ready to answer any questions.
