Dear all, I think I've not shared yet this letter from Tripti Sinha, chair of the ICANN Board of Directors, requesting feedback on the question of rebalancing the Nominating Committee (NomCom). As noted in the letter, the ICANN Board wishes to engage with the community to understand the community's views on this topic. The Board is specifically seeking input on the following questions: 1. What does it mean to have a balanced NomCom at a point in time? For example, what criteria would you apply to measure or assess whether the NomCom is balanced? And further, how can one test whether or not the NomCom is balanced? 2. Do you support the view that the current composition of the NomCom needs to be rebalanced? Please explain why or why not. 3. How frequently does the balance need to be measured or assessed? 4. How do you suggest that the NomCom's composition be rebalanced? 5. Who should conduct this work, and how should it be conducted? 6. How would your community group prioritize consideration of this issue within your planning efforts? The letter includes additional background on the work to date on this topic, including by the NomCom Review Implementation Working Group that was set up to implement the outcomes of the Second NomCom Review (see https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/correspondence for each of the letters sent to all 21 SOAC leaders). Hello everyone. Bellow a report about last LACNIC event, 39th. During the teleconference, we can address specific points if needed. Regards, --------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting took place in Merida/MX in hybrid format from May 8th to 12th. According to LACNIC, there were 857 attendees in person and 637 remotely. Hervé (ASO AC Chair) attended the meeting in person, and arranged informal conversation with ASO/AC members from the region as well as with LACNIC CEO. The LAC region Peering Forum and the RISE Conference were also held during the week. Tutorials covering IPv6, Secure Routing, RPKI, Geolocation and other topics were conducted on Monday and also on Friday. During the Policy Forum the following policy proposals were presented: - LAC-2020-6 v4: Modifications to the PDP. To adjust concept of abandoned proposal and editorial changes during last call. LAC-2022-3 v2: Managing Recovered Resources originally part of the Reserve for Critical Infrastructure. To instruct LACNIC about what to do with recovered resources originally allocated to Critical Infrastructure. LAC-2020-3 v5: Impact Analysis Is Mandatory. To make the Impact Analysis an obligatory item for the discussion process and to instruct LACNIC on when to publish them. LAC-2023-2 v1: S5-DNSREVERSO-IPv4-IPv6. To update current text about DNS reverse delegation including IPv6. LAC-2023-1 v1: Clarify Definition of Consensus. To clarify consensus in the policy discussion specially regarding new version of already presented proposals. The ASO/AC report was also presented during the Policy Forum session. The General Members Assembly was conducted and Oscar Robles presented justifications for a future fee schema review. At the closing session the LACNIC40, in conjunction with LACNIC2023, was announced and will take place in Fortaleza Brazil from the 2nd to 6th of next October.

Hi Hervé, how are you? Many thanks for your update. As I remember from the ICANN meeting in Kobe, the local host has to issue documentation to be presented at the Japan embassy to request the visa. Will this topic be covered during the exchange with the organization team? I don’t know the experiences of the other AC members, but at least, here in Havana, the Japanese embassy required that the documents (in Japanese, of course) were sent printed from Japan using a courier. The visa approval process was very quick but it took some stressful days waiting for the courier. Even when we´ll have a few weeks ahead to do it, we should start the process as soon as possible. Hello everyone. We are approaching the deadline we agreed for comments on the procedures reviews. Our June meeting is next week and it would be important to advance on this and have something to send to EC for their review/approval. EC will meet in June 20th. After that in July 18th and then Aug 15th. Considering that, we might want to take optimized approach and send those procedures reviews that touch the quorum issue: - Meetings - ICANN board selection But if we could also advance with the Voting, excellent. If not, this last procedure could be sent to EC latter in July or August. Thoughts? thanks

Dear all, Our second F2F meeting of the year will take place in Kyoto during APNIC 56 (thanks one more time to the NRO EC for your approval). As time is needed for visas applications and/or affordable plane tickets, we had first discussions with the secretariat and vice chairs to define which days the ASO AC / NRO EC can meet. Updated Action Item 230313-1: Hervé C. to check with each RIR when a policy proposal is marked as global and whether it is vetted before it comes to the ASO AC. Also, to check what are the next steps once a policy is marked as global. Hervé C. to compile all the answers in a document and share it with the ASO AC. ONGOING New Action Item 230503-1: Hervé C. to reply to the NRO EC that the venue selected for the second 2023 f2f ASO AC meeting is APNIC 56 (Kyoto). New Action Item 230503-2: All Procedures Review working groups to upload their texts to the wiki. All members of the AC to read the texts proposed for the different sections and provide comments on the wiki by 18 May. New Action Item 230503-3: Germán V. to look for the documents related to the calculations from when the AC decided to use the Schultze counting method for ICANN Board elections and send these documents to Kevin B., who will share with the others what his concerns are re the abuse of instant run-off voting in cases where the number of voters is low. Dear all, As per New Action Item 230405-2: Hervé C. to inquire with the NRO EC about the possibility of the ASO AC holding a f2f meeting in September during the APNIC meeting in Kyoto or at an alternative venue prior to September, and after evaluating this request, the NRO EC would support a second f2f ASO AC meeting in Japan during APNIC in Kyoto, however the NRO EC requests to assess if this second meeting could be held during ICANN 77 in Washington instead. Board Listening Sessions with the ICANN Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees

Dear ASO AC members, the ASO Council is invited to a Listening Session with the full ICANN Board on Thursday 27 April at 14:55 UTC. Context: the Board has established a Search Committee to put together, for the full Board to consider, a viable list of candidates (a "short list") to be ICANN's next President and CEO. The immediate task is to create a candidate profile, which will be published before ICANN77 and presented during the meeting. To gather input from different parts of the ICANN Community and the broader Internet ecosystem, the Board and the Search Committee are holding a series of Listening Sessions (with inter alia the different SOs and ACs), the first of which took place last month during ICANN76. To assist with the creation of this candidate profile, the Search Committee is seeking the Community's input on ICANN's future, the challenges and opportunities ahead, and what qualifications, characteristics, and qualities we need in our next leader. The Board and the Search Committee encourage feedback that is succinct, positive, focused on describing what is desired and, above all, forward-looking. Even if only the ASO Council leaders are invited to actively participate in the 45 minutes session, all members are naturally very welcome to join the session as observers. Before that, we (as chair and vice chairs) are requested to gather your feedback regarding the ICANN's next President and CEO's profile.
